Why Holborn Chambers?

A Chambers in Which to Develop Your Practice

Experienced Clerking Support

Our clerking team supports members in managing and developing their practices and professional relationships.

Broad Practice Base

Holborn Chambers brings together practitioners working across a range of legal disciplines, creating opportunities for collaboration and continued practice development.

Central London

Chambers is based at 6 Gate Street, London WC2A 3HP, in the heart of London’s legal district.

Public Access Opportunities

Suitably qualified practitioners may have opportunities to develop work directly with members of the public alongside professionally instructed work.

Collegiate Environment

We value professional excellence alongside constructive relationships between members, clerks and staff.

Who We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from established practitioners who can demonstrate:

Professional Excellence
Strong legal ability, advocacy and case preparation.

Professional Standing
Integrity, sound judgment and high professional standards.

Established or Developing Practice
A practice that complements or contributes to the continued development of Chambers.

Client Care
The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with professional and lay clients.

Practice Development
The ambition and ability to continue developing a sustainable practice.

Contribution to Chambers
A collegiate approach and willingness to contribute positively to the professional life of Chambers.

This is similar to the concise approach used by Red Lion and 5SAH, which focus on strong practices, professional qualities and contribution to Chambers rather than publishing an unnecessarily long scoring framework.

Tenancy at Holborn Chambers

The Next Stage of Your Practice

We welcome applications from established barristers who are considering the next stage of their professional career and whose practice, experience and ambitions complement the work of Chambers.

As a tenant at Holborn Chambers, you will practise as a member of Chambers while benefiting from the support of an experienced clerking team and the professional environment of an established London set.

Holborn Chambers currently practises across a broad range of areas and welcomes applications from practitioners whose work can strengthen existing teams or contribute to the continued development of Chambers.

For appropriately qualified practitioners, there may also be opportunities to develop Public Access work. Holborn’s existing recruitment page specifically identifies this as an area of opportunity.

Door Tenancy

Maintain Your Connection With Holborn Chambers

Holborn Chambers also welcomes applications for door tenancy from suitably experienced practitioners.

Door tenancy may be appropriate for barristers who wish to maintain a professional association with Holborn Chambers while their principal practice or professional arrangements are based elsewhere.

This is a recognised form of practice at the Bar: the BSB distinguishes door tenancy from full tenancy, and examples across the profession include practitioners who maintain a door tenancy at one set while principally practising from another chambers or in employed practice.

The precise terms, rights and arrangements applicable to a Holborn Chambers door tenancy will be discussed with successful applicants before appointment.

That last sentence is important because door-tenancy arrangements differ between chambers, so I would not make promises about clerking, voting rights, work allocation or fees unless Holborn has formally confirmed them.

Applications for Tenancy or Door Tenancy should be made directly to Chambers.
