What Defines Us

Professional Standards Without Standing Still

Excellence

We are committed to high standards of preparation, advocacy and legal analysis. Our barristers approach every instruction with care, professionalism and attention to the individual needs of the case.

Integrity

Independence and professional judgment are fundamental to practice at the Bar. We expect our members to act with integrity, uphold their professional obligations and give clients clear and considered advice.

Determination

Our barristers represent their clients fearlessly and professionally, including in difficult, sensitive and high-pressure cases.

Modern Practice

We respect the traditions of the Bar while recognising that legal practice continues to evolve. We seek practical, efficient and accessible ways of working with professional clients and members of the public

A Diverse Chambers

Different Perspectives Strengthen the Bar

Holborn Chambers values the different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives of its members, pupils and staff.

We are committed to equality of opportunity, fair recruitment, fair access to work and an inclusive professional environment in which people are able to develop on merit.

Our approach is supported by formal policies covering equality and diversity, reasonable adjustments, fair access to work, anti-harassment, parental leave, flexible working and diversity monitoring.

That is now much stronger than the very short statement on Holborn’s existing Equality & Diversity page. The current site already states that Chambers welcomes applications regardless of a range of personal characteristics. (Holborn Chambers)

Access to Justice

Supporting the Communities We Serve

A commitment to the profession also means recognising the importance of access to justice.

Members of Holborn Chambers contribute to the wider legal community through pro bono work, volunteering and other professional activities, alongside their individual practices. The existing Chambers site already identifies pro bono work and volunteering as part of its wider contribution. (Holborn Chambers)

Some members also have significant individual involvement in community legal work. For example, Maria Gonzalez-Merello’s current profile records her long-running pro bono legal clinic supporting disadvantaged and non-English-speaking members of the Latin American community in London. Our People

Individual Expertise. One Chambers.

The strength of Chambers lies in its people.

Our barristers bring different professional backgrounds, experiences and areas of expertise to their work. They practise at different levels of seniority and across a range of legal disciplines, while sharing a commitment to effective advocacy and high professional standards.

Our clerking team works closely with members and those instructing Chambers to help identify the appropriate barrister for each matter and to provide responsive support throughout an instruction.

How We Work

This could be a dark navy section with three columns.

Clear Advice

The law can be complex. We aim to identify the issues that matter, explain them clearly and provide practical advice on the options available.

Effective Advocacy

Preparation and advocacy sit at the heart of what we do. Our members appear before courts and tribunals and advise clients at every stage of proceedings.

Collaborative Support

Barristers practise independently, but they do not work in isolation. Our members, clerks and staff work together to provide an effective and responsive service.

Our Approach

Professional and Direct Access

Holborn Chambers accepts instructions from solicitors and other authorised professional clients.

Members of the public may also be able to instruct appropriately qualified barristers directly through the Public Access scheme, depending on the nature and suitability of the matter. (Holborn Chambers)

Our clerking team can assist with identifying an appropriate barrister and discussing availability, fees and the nature of the instruction.
